Annabel Smith grew up in Adelaide and got her bachelor degree at Flinders University. She moved to Canberra to complete her PhD at ANU and now considers herself Canberran, having lived here for five years. She is a research scientist by day, with professional interests in ecology and conservation biology. Annabel is passionate about Chinese culture – an interest that was sparked by her many Mandarin speaking friends, both native speakers and Australians who had learned to speak the language. She visited Shanghai in 2012 and looks forward to future travel in other regions of China. With this in mind, Annabel is keen to continue studying Mandarin and learning more about intangible Chinese culture.
